Estonian Startup Scorestars Secures Seed Investment for Innovative Fantasy Basketball Platform

Estonian SportsTech company Scorestars has successfully raised €725K in seed funding, aiming to revolutionize the basketball fan experience. This investment, spearheaded by Trind VC, Startup Wise Guys, 3 Comma Capital, and several Estonian angel investors, is set to bolster the company's expansion efforts and market reach.

While fantasy sports have been around for over 60 years, Scorestars argues that the genre hasn't fully tapped into its potential, citing a need for greater interactivity and fan engagement. The market potential is significant, with the global fantasy sports market valued at $24.52 billion in 2022 and projected to soar to $90 billion by 2031. Modern fans, especially younger audiences less inclined to watch entire games on TV, are seeking innovative ways to engage with basketball.

Established in 2020 by Samuel V., CEO Marek Kesküll, and Martin Lond, Scorestars offers a distinctive approach to basketball fandom. Their platform combines digital card collecting with fantasy basketball gameplay. Users can assemble and manage virtual teams using cards of their favorite players, with real-life player performances translating into game points and leaderboards. Beyond entertainment, the platform entices users with tangible rewards, from exclusive experiences to high-tech gadgets.

Scorestars' vision extends beyond local basketball, having established partnerships with major basketball leagues in Turkey, Israel, Lithuania, and the Basketball Champions League. This new influx of capital will fuel marketing initiatives and talent acquisition, propelling Scorestars towards becoming the ultimate sports fan companion app.

Ivar Siimar, Partner at Trind Ventures, commended the team, stating, "From the idea stage to now, the founders have consistently hit one milestone after another."

Boasting 300,000 game plays and 2,000 transactions predominantly from European basketball enthusiasts, primarily males aged 18-28, Scorestars is experiencing a 4000% annual growth. The platform is poised to attract a growing number of female sports fans, diversifying its user base.
