Decathlon, the renowned French sports goods producer and retailer, is further expanding its footprint in Austria. Boasting five existing stores, the company has witnessed a remarkable 25% increase in sales. An additional store is set to open its doors in Linz come June.

Decathlon's fifth year in Austria has been marked by significant achievements. With its stores located in Vienna, Vösendorf, Klagenfurt, and Graz, the company has registered a 25% sales boost compared to the previous year. Employment growth is also notable, with a 22% increase, bringing the total number of staff in Austria to 180. The summer of 2024 is set to see further expansion, with the inauguration of the sixth Decathlon outlet in the PlusCity shopping center near Linz, Pasching. This new establishment is expected to generate 30 jobs over a 3,000 square meter retail space.

Innovative Strategies Over Discount Wars

Decathlon Austria's approach last Black Friday, one of the year's peak shopping periods, was notably successful. Instead of engaging in traditional discount wars, the company implemented an innovative strategy. Customers enjoyed free shipping throughout the Black Friday weekend, leading to an impressive 142% surge in orders compared to the previous year. This strategy extended to large sporting items like bicycles, contributing to the third-highest sales day in the history of Decathlon's online store. “Decathlon's remarkable growth in employees, sales, and orders highlights our commitment to customer-centricity and innovation. We are eager to continue this success trajectory and remain optimistic about a bright and sporty future,” says Gábor Pósfai, the Managing Director of Decathlon Austria.
